Caregiver (Carlsbad)

 


Job Summary:

Our Caregivers provide personal care and support services to clients in a Comfort Keepers established Personal Care Program. At Comfort Keepers, we treat loved ones as if they are members of our own families. Our Personal Care Aides all lovingly provide Interactive Caregiving to clients, enhancing their lives while maintaining the highest standard of care. We are hiring for both Level 2 and Level 3 Caregivers.

 

Level 2 Essential Functions:

  • Assist with bathing

  • Assist with mobility (transfers and positioning)

  • Assist with toileting

  • Incontinence care limited to assistance with diapering

  • Emptying catheters and changing out leg/bedside bags

  • Assistance with grooming and dressing (including shaving and oral hygiene)

  • Hospice client care including comfort care and family TLC

  • Dementia client care including prompting and limited help in decision making

  • Assist with nebulizer treatments (assemble equipment, add meds, maintain and clean equipment)

  • Additional assistance may include: conversation, companionship, meal preparation, housekeeping services, grocery shopping, medication reminders, laundry and linen washing, recreational activities, mail assistance and organization

Level 3 Essential Functions

  • Full bathing: bed baths, full assist tub/shower baths

  • Full mobility assistance with transfers and positioning

  • Gait Belt

  • Full toileting assistance

  • Full incontinence care: diapering and full peri-care

  • Bed bound client needs

  • Full transfers (using Comfort Keeper guidelines; no full lifts allowed)

  • Dementia/Alzheimer client care

  • Hoyer lifts

  • Occupied bed changes

  • Feeding

  • Oxygen maintenance (fill water bottle, change cannula, clean filters)

  • Additional assistance may include: assistance with grooming and dressing (including shaving and oral hygiene), Hospice client comfort care including family TLC, Nebulizer treatments (assemble equipment, add meds, maintain and clean equipment), conversation, companionship, meal preparation, housekeeping services, errand services, grocery shopping, medication reminders, laundry and linen washing, recreational activities, mail assistance and organization.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred.  Must demonstrate satisfactory completion of any state-mandated training.  Applicant must be bondable and meet or exceed minimum qualifications for each of the following background checks:  Criminal Background Investigation, Motor Vehicle Driving Record, Professional and Personal Reference Checks, and give permission to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.  Must have reliable transportation and fulfill assignments with reliability and punctuality.  Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

Must satisfactorily complete Comfort Keepers training and orientation program.  Must accept responsibility for learning and adhering to Comfort Keepers policies and procedures, be able to function in the home setting with minimal direct supervision and maintain satisfactory relationships with administrative staff, clients, and family members.  Must be genuinely concerned about helping people and have high moral standards of honesty and integrity.

  • Strong organizational skills and adjusting actions in relations to others.

 

Working Environment:

Client’s home setting and automobile. Possibility of contact with blood or other body fluids may pose a risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.

 

Physical Demands:

The work requires moderate physical exertion on a regular and recurring basis, such as driving, assisting clients in transfer activities and ambulation, and light housekeeping.  Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, see, reach, kneel, and crouch.  Lifting only up to 25 pounds is permitted and may be required.
